Capt. Luis Avila

Army Capt. Luis Avila was serving on his fifth deployment in 2011 (Afghanistan). He was on a mission to secure a downed UAV when his vehicle was hit with an explosive that killed three of his soldiers and left three more badly wounded.

Kayla Saska

Kayla’s promising Navy career was cut short when a shipboard accident and follow-on medical complications sidelined her. It started when her team was moving equipment and a 100 lb case slammed into her, causing a brain injury.

David G. Perez

David trained as a medic in Hawaii before deploying to Saipan and Okinawa in WWII. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and spent five days in a coma. Now, at 104, David G. Perez is living a long life full of devotion to his family and his country.

Jason Castille

Everything the tumor touched had to be removed. This included my latissimus dorsi (wing muscle), shoulder blade, two of my three deltoids (shoulder muscles), a large portion of my collar bone, a significant amount of trapezius, and much more.

Scholarships for Military Children

The Fisher House Foundation contracts with “Scholarship Managers,” a professional scholarship management firm, to evaluate scholarship applications and select the best qualified as recipients. Every dollar received is given out as a scholarship grant. Additionally, Fisher House Foundation matches all donations, dollar for dollar.
